Animal box office collection day 3: Ranbir Kapoor film earns Rs 360 cr worldwide gross, demolishes this Shah Rukh Khan record

Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal broke more box office records on Sunday, despite receiving mixed to negative reviews from all quarters, marking an unprecedented success story. During the day, the actioner even surpassed the three-day collection of Siddharth Anand’s Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan, although it fell short of the record set by Atlee Kumar’s SRK film Jawan. Animal also emerged as the second film of the year, after Jawan, to enter Rs 200 crore club in India and Rs 350 cr club worldwide within three days.

On its third day in theatres, Animal raked in Rs 72.50 crore in the domestic market, according to early estimates by the industry tracker Sacnilk, reflecting an 8.5 per cent surge in daily box office earnings compared to the previous day. Thus, Animal’s three-day domestic nett collection reached Rs 202.57 crore, just shy of Jawan’s Rs 206.06 crore and well beyond Pathan’s Rs 166.75 crore. As per trade analyst Ramesh Bala, Animal’s worldwide gross collection stands at Rs 360 crore. “For the 3-day opening weekend, #Animal grosses a whopping ₹ 360 Crs at the WW Box office,” he tweeted. Jawan, the biggest earner this year, made Rs 384.6 crore in the first three days while Pathaan grossed Rs 313 crores.

Though the film’s first Sunday domestic nett collection surpassed that of Pathan (Rs 60.75 crore), it couldn’t break Jawan’s Rs 80.1 crore. However, even Anil Sharma’s Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer Gadar 2, considered to be a historic hit, had only earned Rs 51.7 crore on its first Sunday in theatres. It remains to be seen if Animal will surpass Pathan (Rs 26.5 crore), Jawan (Rs 32.92 crore) and Gadar 2 (Rs 38.7 crore) in the Monday test.

On Sunday, Animal witnessed an overall occupancy of 79.05 per cent in the Hindi market. Initially, during the morning shows, the movie experienced a 65.53% occupancy within the Hindi market. However, as the day unfolded, the percentages consistently increased, rising to 84.58 during the afternoon showings and reaching 86.42 during the evening shows. The percentage dipped slightly during the night screenings and stood at 79.66.

While Animal is breaking box office records, the film has also been facing intense scrutiny for its misogyny, violence and vulgarity, with a section of the audience calling it out.
